CHP Age Well, Drive Smart Class for seniors

HANFORD, Calif. – California is facing continued growth in the number of adults aged 65 or older driving on our roads today. Current generations are living longer than their parents and have better access to vehicles. This dramatic increase can be attributed to the “baby boomers.” The impact of aging on driving varies widely, but seniors need to know that gradual and incremental effects on vision, flexibility, and response times compromise safety and eventually require them to stop driving.

In 2011, the CHP implemented the Age Well, Drive Smart program statewide. This program was designed to provide older drivers with the knowledge to drive safer and drive longer. Discussion topics in the program include:
o How to tune up their driving skills.
o Refreshing their knowledge of the rules of the road.
o Learning about age related physical changes and how to adjust to them.
o When it may be time to limit or stop driving.
o Understanding the alternatives to driving.
Hanford CHP Area is conducting Age Well, Drive Smart classes at our local office at 1565 Glendale Ave, Hanford, CA. The next available class is on Friday August 18, 2017 at 10:00 am. To register for this free class, contact the Hanford CHP office at (559)582-0231 or email to JoTyler@chp.ca.gov .
