Police and K-9 locate Narcotics during Vehicle Stop

On November 5, 2017 at approximately 11:21 a.m., Officer Richard Mancera was on patrol when he observed a 1992 BMW sedan operating with expired registration. The Officer stopped the vehicle in the 400 Block of Mercy Springs Road.

The Officer contacted the driver, 41-year-old Robert Martinez, and his passengers, 45-year-old Ernesto Zapata and an adult female. Officer Todd Carter and his K-9 partner Maverick arrived and Maverick quickly alerted to the presence of narcotics inside of the vehicle.

During a search, the Officers located two plastic bags containing suspected methamphetamine, totaling approximately 13.9 grams, processed marijuana, a methamphetamine smoking pipe, and an imitation firearm that was partially spray painted black.

During the investigation, the Officers determined Martinez attempted to hide the methamphetamine and Zapata attempted to hide the smoking pipe. Both males were placed under arrest and booked into the Los Banos Police Department Jail; the female passenger was released on scene.
