Fresno Area CHP Reports Fatal Motorcycle Collision

On 01/17/2018, at approximately 1334 hours, Fresno Area CHP Communication Center (FCC) received a call from a disabled motorist who’s vehicle ran out of gas eastbound State Route 180 (SR180) east of Brawley Avenue in the county of Fresno. The caller advised he needed assistance and also advised that he observed a motorcycle and body down the embankment where his vehicle had become disabled. FCC dispatched the call and requested Fresno City Fire and American Ambulance to respond to the scene as well. Fresno Area CHP units responded and made contact with the disabled motorist eastbound SR180 east of Brawley Avenue on the right shoulder. The motorist directed CHP personnel and Fresno City Fire personnel to where he observed the motorcycle and body. Through preliminary investigation, it appears the motorcyclist (P-1) was traveling westbound Whitesbridge Avenue approaching the end of the cul-de-sac at an unknown speed. The motorcyclist failed to observe the clearly marked roadway end at SR180. The motorcyclist subsequently collided into the wooden guard rail at the end of the cul-de-sac. As a result of this collision, the rider was ejected off the motorcycle and landed in the brush between the cul-de-sac and SR180. The motorcycle traveled through the wooden guard rail and came to rest in the brush between the cul-de-sac and SR180. The rider sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Fresno Area CHP Sergeant D. Salcido, ID 13014, acknowledged the call and
responded to the scene. Per the Fresno County Coroner’s personnel, it appears the traffic collision may have occurred several days prior. The exact time will be determined by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office at a later date. This collision is being investigated by Fresno CHP Officer M. Godfrey, ID 19523, with the assistance of Officer A. Baca, ID 19473. It was later determined the rider, identified as Jose Alejandro Madrigal, was reported missing by his family to the Fresno Police Department on 01/09/2018. He was last seen riding his motorcycle which was a 2002 Suzuki Boulevard.
