On January 27, 2018, at approximately 1125 hours, the Merced Communication Center (MCC) received a call of a motorcycle down on State Route 108/120 approximately two miles east of Lancaster Road. Officers from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Modesto Area Office and emergency personnel arrived on scene and located the solo motorcycle on its wheels resting against a fence and a 59 year old female rider lying in a supine position being attended to by fire and ambulance personnel.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined the female rider was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson eastbound on State Route 108/120, east of Lancaster Road, at approximately 35 miles per hour, approaching a left hand curve and rise in the roadway. For an unknown reason at this time, the female rider lost control and traveled onto the south shoulder. The rider attempted to regain control of her motorcycle, however they traveled down into a water culvert where the front of the motorcycle collided with the opposite dirt embankment. The impact caused the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle. Both the rider and motorcycle came to rest on the south dirt shoulder of the roadway. The rider was transported to by Oak Valley Ambulance to Oak Valley Hospital, in Oakdale, CA, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The female rider was wearing her helmet prior to the collision.
