On March 3, 2018, at approximately 0025 hours, the Merced Communications Center broadcast a collision with an ambulance responding on Mitchell Road at Riverside Drive. Officer from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Modesto Area Office responded to the scene and investigated the collision.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency personnel located Mr. Recore and his two passengers. Mr. Recore sustained major injuries and was transported to Memorial Medical Center. Both passengers in the vehicle were not injured. This collision is still under investigation. However, it appears Mr. Recore was driving a 2014 Lexus westbound on Riverside approaching
Mitchell Road at an unknown speed.
Mr. Recore attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Mitchell Road. However, he was traveling atan unsafe speed and failed to safely negotiate the turn. The Lexus collided with the west curb edge of Mitchell Road which resulted in the Lexus leaving the roadway, where it collided with a chain link fence. The Lexus eventually came to rest on its wheels, facing in a northerly direction inside the Modesto Airport.
Alcohol and/or drugs appear to have been a factor in this collision. Mr. Recore was placed under arrest by the California Highway Patrol after he displayed indicators of impairment. Due to the extent of his injuries, Mr. Recore was later released to the custody of the hospital.
