On October 21, 2018 at approximately 2232 hours, the Merced Communications Center received a call of a traffic collision with unknown injuries at Valeria Avenue and Bryant Avenue. Officers from the California Highway Patrol Los Banos Area Office were dispatched to the scene to perform a traffic collision investigation.

Upon arrival of the officers, initial investigation found that a 2000 Yamaha motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Valeria Avenue east of Bryant Avenue when the rider struck a deer that was in the roadway. The rider of the motorcycle was ejected from his vehicle and landed in the eastbound lane of Valeria Avenue with unknown injuries. Mr. Conley was driving a 2010 Dodge Challenger eastbound on Valeria Avenue east of Bryant Avenue when he suddenly struck the motorcycle rider. Mr. Conley pulled to the right hand shoulder and called the authorities reporting that he had hit an unknown object in the road. Upon the arrival of the officers, the motorcycle rider was found deceased. Correlating damage from the Dodge confirmed that it had struck the rider.
Mr. Conley was found to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and was arrested.
