On December 29, 2018 at approximately 10:08 p.m., Los Banos Police Officers were dispatched to a home in the 2300 block of N. Fallbrook for a disturbance. Officer Mondragon encountered Chhai Kim Va, 34 of Los Banos standing outside the home. Va was detained after officers found a firearm on the ground close to where Va had been standing when officers arrived at the home.

Witnesses told police Va was arguing with his girlfriend and at some point Va grabbed a knife when the girlfriend’s father intervened. Va left the home when his girlfriend called the police.
Va had an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant and is a prior convicted felon. Va was arrested and charged with three felonies including, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Va was booked into the Los Banos Police Department jail and later transferred to the John Latoracca Correctional Facility where he remains in custody in lieu of $103,000 bail.
