Since the past three weeks have been extremely hot, many of our residents have voiced concern over the safety of our homebound seniors. Community Service Provider, Gloria Mendonca, informed me that it is important for our citizens to look out for our elderly residents and neighbors. Even though the Los Banos Community Center provides relief from the heat for our residents, by opening the Cooling Center when the temperature reaches unbearable conditions. We must check on our senior neighbors that cannot go to the Cooling Center. Mrs. Mendonca checks in on all of the seniors on her block and suggests that if every resident did the same, it would be a great benefit to our homebound seniors. If every resident would check on their elderly, homebound, neighbors, during the extreme weather conditions we are experiencing, it would help to ensure their safety. Check on your senior neighbors to make sure that they have plenty of water and that they are comfortable in their homes. If they show any signs of illness or heat stroke seek immediate medical attention for them. A few minutes of your time each day could help to save a life. As a community we can all work together to help our neighbors.
