One of the highlights of September is the Annual Salute to Seniors Fair. This will be the events 29th year. This years theme is Service with Dignity. The full day of activities is held on Friday, September 27th from 9 am until 3 pm at the Los Banos Community Center located at 645 7th Street. The day begins with free coffee and donuts, and concludes with free bingo. There will be a wide variety of informational tables relevant to seniors. There will be a lunch catered by Espana’s Restaurant. The lunch will be served at 11:30. The cost of the lunch ticket is $10, and they must be purchased in advance. They are now on sale at the Community Center. A highlight of the Salute to Seniors event each year is the recognition of outstanding senior citizens. Applications for nominations are now available at the Community Center, and will be accepted until September 13th. Rule for nominations are that two nominations can be made per organization. The person being nominated must be a member of the organization, and can only be recognized once by that organization. Anyone can nominate an outstanding Senior Citizen. Individuals can be nominated annually by another organization. The person nominated must attend the Senior Citizens Fair luncheon. The person or club presenting the nomination is responsible for arranging their nominees attendance. The application form has a place to write up to 300 words about the individuals volunteer efforts.
