Teresa Baker grew up with eight active brothers in Richmond, California. Rather than be left out of their adventures she decided not be outdone, whether football, hiking, or camping. Her first greatest love was Yosemite National Park. Hiking and camping became second nature to Teresa; over time she realized only a very small percentage of African Americans enjoy our nation’s greatest treasures. She noticed the National Parks Service outreach campaigns didn’t get the desired results and wondered what would happen if she tried her own outreach. With that little sister can do attitude the grown up woman created her own campaign to get African Americans into our National Parks. The 2013 African American National Parks Event again proved the little sister could hang with the big boys.
