Dennis Dyer, 64, of Los Banos, passed away suddenly May 5, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Modesto with his wife and daughters by his side.  Dennis was born in Los Banos, California to parents Donald and Maxine Dyer.  He was one of four children.   Dennis graduated from Los Banos High School and went on to graduate from Fresno State in 1972, where he majored in criminology.
Dennis met his wife, Gail, when they were paired up in their friends’ wedding as groomsman and bridesmaid.  Little did they know that they would be paired up for life.  They were married in 1972.
Dennis began his career as a meter reader for PG&E in 1975.  He was a hard-working and dedicated employee.  He eventually became a meter reading supervisor and oversaw five offices.  He greatly enjoyed his job as well as his co- workers.
Dennis was blessed with a daughter in 1975, and again when his second daughter was born in 1980.  He was a kind, caring and devoted father.  For years, he coached his daughters’ softball teams.  His coaching years brought him lifelong friendships and many wonderful memories.  He took pride in watching his daughters grow into strong, independent women. He walked both his daughters down the aisle at their weddings and gave two heartfelt moving speeches.  Years later, he became known as “Pops” to his grandchildren.  He loved them with all his heart and they continue to adore him.
Dennis was a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph’s Church in Los Banos.  He had a great love for his church and faith, which brought him much comfort.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of  42 years, Gail; Children:  Whitney Ellis (David) of El Dorado Hills and Vanessa Tolley (Matthew) of Templeton;  Siblings:  Mike Dyer of Los Banos, Ken Dyer (Shirley ) of Los Banos and Linda Heppner (Dave) of Los Banos;  Grandchildren:  Carter Ellis, and Ryker and Kynsi Tolley.  He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Maxine Dyer and step mother Mary Dyer.
Funeral Mass was held on Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  Dennis was laid to rest at the Los Banos District Cemetery.  Services were under the direction of Whitehurst Funeral Chapel~Los Banos.
Publisher’s Note:
We sincerely extend condolences to Gail, and to the entire family of Mr. Dyer.  The loss of a special husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to so many stuns the community.  He gave not only to his beloved family members, but gave so willingly to so many others over the years.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him during his lifetime.
