Kaitlyn Alanis, our 2014 Miss May Day Queen, has started her platform “Ag in the Classroom”, which she first announced and promised to add to her reign if she were crowned queen during the speech portion of the Miss May Day Pageant held on March 29, 2014. Kaitlyn Alanis held her first two presentations with Westside Elementary School third graders and Henry Miller first graders this May with a presentation titled, “Growing our Heritage.” As this is the theme of the 2014 Merced County Spring Fair, she found it important to embody these values within her school visits. Her presentation focuses on teaching the students about the true definition of heritage, the heritage within agricultural commodities in Merced County, and the history and heritage of the May Day Fair(Merced County Spring Fair). While running for Miss May Day, Alanis discovered so much history about our fair which she did not know before she was a candidate, and this is heritage and tradition which she feels is important for all fairgoers and Merced County residents to know and treasure.
