Phoney Tales
A couple weeks ago we had a service outage and experienced something we had almost forgotten existed; i.e. quietness and time to do things we had almost forgotten to do. They were things such as reading a book, talking to each other, talking to neighbors, and doing little jobs around the house needing attention. What made all that possible? It was an annoying glitch and outage of our ATT PHONE and INTERNET! Wow! Can you imagine no phone or internet for four days in your home? Yes, it is survivable I assure you, and the change in the atmosphere might only be rivaled by the absence of the television. (Our TV is seldom used and it is amazing how a TV can dominate an area of the home with its presence.)
But we all put a lot of unspoken security in our ability to pick up the phone and call, and the Lord knows how many of us are addicted to one degree or another to the internet. No phone or internet for four days actually generated a lot of productivity and the blessing of zero telemarketers that somehow by-pass the “DO NOT CALL” list we enrolled with. Back in our younger days there were NO telemarketers and how blissful that was.
