On August 19, 2017, at approximately 1251 hours, the California Highway Patrol received a call of a traffic collision which occurred on SR-59 northbound, south of Reilly Road. The collision involved two motorcycles, one with a single rider and one with a driver and passenger. Party #1 (Pending notification) was driving a 2004 Harley Davidson north on SR-59 south of Reilly Road. Gilbert Rodrigues of Los Banos, was driving a maroon, 2004 Harley Davidson north on SR-59 south of Reilly Road to the rear of Party #1’s motorcycle. As Party #1 was slowing for changing traffic conditions he lost control of the motorcycle. subsequently, Part #1 was ejected onto the roadway and was struck by the second Harley Davidson. After the impact, both parties were ejected. There are no indications that alcohol and/or drug impairment contributed to this collision. The use of safety helmets were worn by all parties involved. Officer Ryland, ID 18623, is investigating the cause of the collision to its conclusion.
On August 19, 2017 at approximately 1414 hours, Merced Communications Center received notification that party #1 succumbed to his injuries and is deceased.
