On August 18, 2017 at approximately 2007 hours, Ms. Vanessa M. Murillo was driving her blue 2007 Hyundai Elantra, southbound on North Fork Drive, north of SR-198. The speed of the Hyundai was determined to be approximately 60 MPH. As Ms. Murillo negotiated a left hand curve in the road, the right tires of the Hyundai departed the roadway and entered onto the western dirt shoulder. Ms. Murillo over-corrected to the left and the Hyundai began to rotate on its tires. The Hyundai proceeded in a southeasterly direction, crossing both lanes of North Fork Drive. The Hyundai entered onto the eastern shoulder and struck a boulder. The impact launched the Hyundai into the air and it began to rotate while it was airborne. The Hyundai struck a tree and came to rest on its roof, facing in a southerly direction. Ms. Murillo and front passenger Tanya Cisneros were wearing their seatbelts. The three rear passengers were unrestrained. One of the unrestrained passengers suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
Alcohol has been determined to be a causal factor in the collision and Vanessa M. Murillo was arrested for DUI as a result of the investigation.
The second male passenger fled before his identifying information could obtained. The other passengers were uncooperative with his identification.
