2013 In Review

By Mariann Chew

I hope everyone is enjoying their New Year so far and that one of your resolutions is to have all of your companion animals spayed or neutered. I thought in this Pet Corner I would review a few of my past articles with you, just in case you missed them.  One program that I mentioned many times is the cat spay and neuter clinics that were offered by The Los Banos Volunteers For Animals and Dr. Monica Rudiger.  Thanks to the volunteers and Dr. Rudiger this program prevented many unwanted cats and kittens from being euthanized.  The residents of Los Banos who took advantage of this wonderful program should also be commended for being responsible pet guardians.  There are still many unwanted cats and kittens in our community, so please continue to take advantage of this wonderful program.  I will inform you of the next clinic as soon as I have the infomation.  Many Los Banos residents have a problem with feral cats lounging in their yards.  The Trap Neuter Return advocacy group offered many suggestions on how to humanly discourage these cats from  bothering your property.  Quick solutions are to apply cat repellant to your fence, yard and the cat’s favorite lounging spots  Residents can also install an ultra sonic repellant or motion activated water sprinkler to discourage and repel the cats.  The TNR group also informed the public about their Trap Neuter Release program for feral cats in colonies.  The TNR program is the humane and effective approach for dealing with feral cats in colonies.  For full article, please purchase a copy of The Paper.
